What is a Makerspace?

mak·er·space

ˈmākərˌspās/

noun

  1. a place in which people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.

In addition to the new school makerspace located in the library. We have our own makerspace located in our classroom. Throughout the year I may ask for donations to supply it as students tend to use materials quickly. Items like clay, cotton balls, paper and plastic cups, cardboard, rubber bands, etc. This is a place where students can test ideas on their own, create, and investigate. Keep in mind this is not STEm/STEAM. Makerspace projects are student driven and not challenges set by teacher.
